Effective Date: 2 June 2025
1. Policy Purpose
Quality Waste is committed to ensuring the safety, reliability, and legal compliance of all vehicles and lifting equipment used in our waste management operations across the UK. This LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998) Inspection Policy outlines our approach to regular inspection, maintenance, and certification to protect our employees, clients, and the environment.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all lifting equipment and vehicles operated by Quality Waste, including:
- Vehicle-mounted lifting devices such as cranes, hoists, and tail lifts
- Mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs)
- Chains, slings, shackles, and other lifting accessories
- Any equipment used to lift, lower, or suspend loads during waste collection, handling, or disposal
3. Inspection and Testing
- All lifting equipment undergoes regular LOLER inspections by competent, certified inspectors as mandated by UK law.
- Inspections include thorough examination of structural integrity, safety devices, controls, and load-bearing components.
- Frequency of inspections follows the LOLER guidance and manufacturer recommendations, typically at six-month intervals or more frequently if required by use or risk assessment.
- Defects identified during inspections are immediately reported and rectified before equipment is returned to service.
4. Maintenance and Record Keeping
- Quality Waste ensures all lifting equipment is maintained according to manufacturer guidelines and statutory requirements.
- Detailed records of LOLER inspections, maintenance activities, and certifications are securely maintained and accessible for audits and compliance checks.
- Equipment failing inspection is removed from use until repaired and re-inspected.
5. Training and Competency
- Operators and maintenance personnel receive appropriate training to safely operate and manage lifting equipment.
- Competent persons conduct all LOLER inspections and issue statutory certificates.
6. Health & Safety Compliance
Quality Waste aligns with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other relevant UK legislation to ensure a safe working environment for all staff.
