Worn-out sofas, reception chairs and padded office seating can be awkward to clear. Our upholstered furniture disposal service helps businesses remove unwanted seating and send it to the appropriate treatment route.
POPs means persistent organic pollutants. Some flame retardants in furniture fabric and foam fall into this category. Seating waste containing POPs needs specialist treatment to destroy the pollutants; it cannot be sent for ordinary recycling or landfill.
Send us photographs of the furniture and we will help with the collection. Keep upholstered seating separate from other waste and avoid cutting up or removing the fabric and foam yourself. Let us know if anything is already damaged or dismantled. A Certificate of Destruction is included with the destruction service.
POPs Furniture Disposal FAQs
What does POPs mean?
POPs are persistent organic pollutants. Certain flame retardants found in some furniture fabric and foam are POPs and need specialist destruction when the seating becomes waste.
Does every piece of furniture contain POPs?
No. Unpadded desks, tables and wooden chairs are different from upholstered seating. Some upholstered office chairs fall within the seating guidance; photographs and product information help us choose the route.
Can desks be collected alongside the seating?
We can help clear both, but keep upholstered seating separate from the other furniture. It needs its own treatment route.
Should I dismantle sofas before collection?
Do not cut up or strip the upholstery yourself. Tell us if furniture is already damaged or dismantled so we can help with safe collection arrangements.
Is a destruction certificate included?
Yes. A Certificate of Destruction is included with our POPs furniture destruction service.
