PEOPLE & RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS
Alcohol & Drugs at Work Policy
Fitness for work is essential around vehicles, lifting equipment and waste materials.
Website edition: 5 October 2026 · Quality Waste Limited
Fitness for duty
Staff and contractors must not work while impaired by alcohol, illegal drugs or other substances. Possession, supply or use of illegal drugs at work is prohibited. Do not operate vehicles or equipment where fitness is in doubt.
Medication and support
If medication may affect safe work, seek appropriate medical advice and tell the responsible manager about relevant work restrictions without sharing unnecessary medical details. Anyone concerned about substance dependence is encouraged to seek help; discussions should be handled sensitively.
Concerns and action
Managers should remove an immediate safety risk, consider the facts fairly and arrange a safe next step. Testing must have a lawful, proportionate basis and appropriate procedures; this policy does not claim that a random testing programme or employee assistance programme is already in place. Employment action must follow fair procedures and applicable rights.
