Office and Warehouse Clearances: Which Waste Should Be Kept Separate?

Guidance reviewed 11 October 2026.

Moving premises is easier when waste is considered before the final week. An office or warehouse clearance can include IT, furniture, packaging, chemicals and old stock. Keeping the main types separate helps avoid last-minute surprises and makes the collection easier to organise.

IT equipment and confidential information

Set computers, laptops, servers and storage media aside from ordinary waste. Quality Waste offers IT recycling and disposal, with data-bearing media shredded as standard and a Certificate of Data Destruction included. Paper files need their own confidential shredding route; do not put them loose into a general waste container.

Furniture is not all the same

Desks, shelving and upholstered chairs can need different arrangements. Some upholstered seating contains persistent organic pollutants and requires a specific route. Keep it identifiable and do not break it up to mix with other waste. Mattresses also need to be identified separately rather than assumed to have the same classification as chairs.

The cleaning cupboard and maintenance store

Old paint, oil, cleaning chemicals, batteries and lamps should be flagged before the collection. Do not tip liquids together or hide them inside a furniture load. Labelled containers and some safe photos are more useful than a pallet of unknown products.

Surplus stock and packaging

Decide what can still be used, returned or redistributed before discarding it. Branded products that must not return to sale may need secure destruction, with a Certificate of Destruction included. Clean packaging can be kept separate from contaminated or full product containers.

A manageable starting point

Take some overall photos of each room or storage area and estimate the pallet count where you can. Tell us about stairs, fixed installations and items that cannot be moved safely. You do not need to measure every small item to start an enquiry.

Our office and warehouse clearance service helps bring the collections together. Confirm what removal work is included, especially for connected equipment, rather than assuming a collection includes electrical or refrigeration disconnection.
